Pip and Paul Smash the Fastnet
Just 24hrs in Pip Hare and Paul Larsen were leading the IMOCA class in this year’s Fastnet Race. It was totally unexpected and made for some great race tracking.
Following a tactical decision to stay inshore, Pip and Paul took the lead less than 12 hours into the race and held the fleet off until rounding the Scilly Isles the following lunchtime. From onboard Pip reported, “Seeing us first monohull under line honours was like – WOW! Completely unexpected! And then to still be in this position this morning... We can see Banque Populaire behind us and of course all the fleet is coming in to meet us and I don’t imagine they’ll put up with us forever ahead for much longer…”
Paul Larsen added: “It’s been pretty good! I wonder what all those boats have been up to over there, parked up! Those foilers go fast but will escape again, so we’ll get all our photos up today. I hope you’re enjoying it because we certainly are!”
Eventually the newer, quicker boats over took the pair but they maintained a fight to the end finishing 14th in Class and 26th on line honours in this iconic event. Watch the post race interview with a jubilant and happy Pip here.

I have dedicated ten years of my life to gaining the skills required for racing a 60ft yacht around the world.
When the opportunity to charter Superbigou came up I knew I was physically and mentally reading for this remarkable race and so I grabbed the boat with boat hands and vowed to make it work.
Starting without a title sponsor already secured was an audacious move, and every month I need to raise enough money to cover my running costs and enable me to get out on the water and physically demonstrate to potential sponsors what I am capable of.
If you are inspired by my vision and this campaign you can help me get to the start line by donating to my crowd fund, helping me to keep training and preparing while we talk to potential sponsors. Every donation will go towards running the boat and every donation will make a difference.
I am blown away by how generous people have already been and how humbled to have such support. We are having some great conversations with corporate sponsors, but all these meetings take time and in the meantime this crowdfund is making all the difference.
It might be a solo race, but there is a wealth of skill and experience working with me to make this campaign happen.

Campaign Ambassador Dr Elin Haf Davies, founder and CEO of digital health company with a passion for endurance sport and adventure.
‘Pip has always impressed me with her can do attitude. Her sailing success to date speaks for itself but her curiosity to continuously learn and push new boundaries always inspires.
My only concern regarding her racing in the Vendee is that I can’t go with her. Which seems very unfair. I’ll be cheering and championing for her success all the way around knowing that she’ll smash it in true Pip like fashion.’
Campaign Board member Tom Hill serves as Chief Executive Officer of UBS Jersey at UBS Group AG. Tom is an accomplished sailor and first met Pip at a sailing regatta in Jersey. As part of the campaign board Tom will provide governance and guidance on the funding and financial elements of Pip’s campaign.
“I am delighted to be involved in this campaign, which is a major event in British single handed offshore sailing. Pip has a tremendous record in numerous races, the tougher the better, achieved through amazing strength of character, and the Vendee entry comes at the ideal time in her career.”
